Yes, the little lamb is cute and smart, but ’Any excuse will serve a tyrant.’ 欲加之罪,何患无辞。 "伊索寓言里有没有关于“wolf in sheep’s clothing"的故事?" --- Here you go: The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing A Wolf found great difficulty in getting at the sheep owing to the vigilance of the shepherd and his dogs. But one day it found the skin of a sheep that had been flayed and thrown aside, so it put it on over its own pelt and strolled down among the sheep. The Lamb that belonged to the sheep, whose skin the Wolf was wearing, began to follow the Wolf in the Sheep’s clothing; so, leading the Lamb a little apart, he soon made a meal off her, and for some time he succeeded in deceiving the sheep, and enjoying hearty meals. Appearances are deceptive.

啊,还真有啊?那好吧,类似中文里的“亡羊补牢”、“挂羊头、卖狗肉”它里面有没有? 我只知道“农妇与蛇”来自伊索寓言,估计我们生活中流传的很多充满哲理的小故事几乎都来自伊索寓言。

Straight from the horse’s mouth (跪求中文)
Meaning: getting information directly from the most reliable source Origin: This one is said to come from the 1900s, when buyers could determine a horse’s age by examining its teeth. It’s also why you shouldn’t “look a gift horse in the mouth,” as inspecting a gift is considered bad etiquette.

You think I'm flaky? That's rich, considering you didn't show up either. Me? Lazy? That’s rich, coming from you! Gil says that women can't keep secrets. That's a bit rich, coming from him.

Do you know that there are Four Colors of Lies? They are gray, white, black and red. Grey lies are partly to help others and partly to help ourselves. White lies are altruistic as we seek first to help others, even at some cost to ourselves. Black lies are about simple and callous selfishness. Red lies are about spite and revenge. They are driven by the motive to harm others even at the expense of harming oneself. They may even be carved in blood. Simply put: white is good, red is bad, and grey/black are in between.

Interesting!
There are so many types of lies : A blue lie is a form of lying that is told purportedly to benefit a collective or "in the name of the collective good". The origin of the term "blue lie" is possibly from cases where police officers made false statements to protect the police force or to ensure the success of a legal case against an accused. This differs from the blue wall of silence in that a blue lie is not an omission but a stated falsehood. A noble lie, which also could be called a strategic untruth, is one that normally would cause discord if uncovered, but offers some benefit to the liar and assists in an orderly society, therefore, potentially being beneficial to others. It is often told to maintain law, order, and safety. The phrase "speaking with a forked tongue" means to deliberately say one thing and mean another or, to be hypocritical, or act in a duplicitous manner. This phrase was adopted by Americans around the time of the Revolution, and may be found in abundant references from the early nineteenth century – often reporting on American officers who sought to convince the Indigenous peoples of the Americas with whom they negotiated that they "spoke with a straight and not with a forked tongue" (as for example, President Andrew Jackson told members of the Creek Nation in 1829). According to one 1859 account, the proverb that the "white man spoke with a forked tongue" originated in the 1690s, in the descriptions by the indigenous peoples of French colonials in America inviting members of the Iroquois Confederacy to attend a peace conference, but when the Iroquois arrived, the French had set an ambush and proceeded to slaughter and capture the Iroquois.

peter out: (for something) to die or dwindle away or to become exhausted gradually.
1846 US miners' slang, from 1812 peter (“to become exhausted”). Various speculative etymologies have been suggested, either from St. Peter (from the sense of “rock”), French péter (“to fart”), or saltpeter (ingredient in gunpowder, hence used in mining).

飓风Henri 星期天飓风Henri在美东登陆,星期六加油站就排起长队。可是在收音机听到的发音不是Henry(亨利)而像是Enri,会不会那又是silent “H”? 英语很多单词H不发音,我曾经把Durham读出dur-ham,有人说那个H不发音,应该是du-ram。 H is silent in many English words, for various reasons. Sometimes it is because of the word's derivation (e.g. messiah from Hebrew or rhapsody from Greek); sometimes it is as a result of elision (e.g. shepherd, exhaust). The words hour and honest come from French, and in these cases English took over the French pronunciation as well as the word. Not all such words that have come into English from French still have a silent h, however. Over the centuries we have come to pronounce the h in words like horrible, hospital, host, human, and humour.
