吃什么补什么 You are what you eat?

I'm no expert anyway. There's no escaping from global warming. 山亭夏日 高骈 绿树阴浓夏日长,楼台倒影入池塘。 水晶帘动微风起,满架蔷薇一院香。

"顶风或者逆风"for headwind, and "顺风" for tailwind. Right on! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Headwind_and_tailwindIn aeronautics, a headwind is favorable in takeoffs and landings because an airfoil moving into a headwind is capable of generating greater lift than the same airfoil moving through tranquil air, or with a tailwind, at equal ground speed. As a result, aviators and air traffic controllers commonly choose to take off or land in the direction of a runway that will provide a headwind.

Tit for tat 以牙还牙 ,以血还血 Tit for tat is an English saying meaning "equivalent retaliation". It developed from "tip for tap", first used in 1558. It is also a highly effective strategy in game theory. An agent using this strategy will first cooperate, then subsequently replicate an opponent's previous action www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-tit1.htmWhere did tit for tat come from? It’s the littlest words that often give us the most trouble in sorting out their origins. They’re likely to be the ones that have proved to be the most mutable in the spoken language. This curious phrase is a classic example. In the sixteenth century, it was tip for tat. Another form, used by Shakespeare and almost certainly from fencing, was tap for tap, which makes plain the underlying idea of a reprisal or retaliation that’s roughly proportionate to its cause. Tat in tit for tat isn’t a distinct word at all but an instance of a type of reduplication in which the internal vowel changes from i to a, as in chit-chat, flimflam and knick-knack. Tip here is the same as tap, a light blow. Tit is not in the mammary sense but comes from an old verb that likewise could mean to strike a light blow. All these words have an idea of smallness about them: a tit can also be a small bird (originally titmouse but it was the tit part that communicated small size, since mouse isn’t the rodent but a version of mose, an Old English name for the same bird); at one time tit could be a small or part-grown horse or a girl or young woman. Tip can also be an extremity or small point. The ultimate origins of most of these are uncertain but some may be imitative. After all that, you will understand that we must dismiss the common belief that tit for tat is a corruption of this for that. I am suspicious of two other statements about its origin which appear in some reference works. It has been suggested that it’s related to the French tant pour tant, which chefs will know as a mixture of equal parts of fine sugar and ground almonds. It seems to have once meant “like for like” and is ancient enough that a bashed-about version is in Love’s Labour’s Lost: “So pertaunt-like would I o’ersway his state”. But if it was ever common it is improbable as the source of tit for tat, as the links to the other short English words I’ve listed are too strong. Most works that mention that source also suggest that it could be from a Dutch phrase, dit vor dat, in the same sense, though my Dutch contacts say it doesn’t exist in the language today nor in old texts. I suspect uncritical borrowing of erroneous material from earlier sources, the curse of third-rate reference books.

“partisan politics must stop at the water’s edge.”
In 1947, Sen. Arthur Vandenberg of Michigan took to the Senate floor and delivered what many consider to be a “speech heard ‘round the world.” That phrase means simply that internal debate that Americans engage in daily doesn’t extend past our shores, that the president shouldn’t be undercut by partisan politicking at home, but instead U.S. politicians should present a unified front.

望文生义:bromance=brother+romance? 果然。
Wiki: A bromance is a close but non-sexual relationship between two or more men. It is an exceptionally tight, affectional, homosocial male bonding relationship exceeding that of usual friendship, and is distinguished by a particularly high level of emotional intimacy. The emergence of the concept since the beginning of the 21st century has been seen as reflecting a change in societal perception and interest in the theme, with an increasing openness of Western society in the 21st century to reconsider gender, sexuality, and exclusivity constraints.

haha, 混成词 portmanteau. wiki: A portmanteau or portmanteau word (from French "coat rack") is a linguistic blend of words, in which parts of multiple words or their phonemes (sounds) are combined into a new word, as in smog, coined by blending smoke and fog, or motel, from motor and hotel. (smoke+fog=smog, motor+hotel=motel) In linguistics, a portmanteau is a single morph that is analyzed as representing two (or more) underlying morphemes. 混成詞(英文:portmanteau或blend,又譯為合音詞、緊縮詞、合併詞、 混合詞)指由最少兩個詞語或詞語的一部分結合而成的詞語或詞素,該新詞語的意義和讀音集組成部分之成。一般而言,混成詞是新詞,例如cyborg(生化人),普遍代指cybernetic organism(自動化生物)。与合成詞(又稱複合詞)之不同在于,混成詞本身是一个詞素,虽然其意義和讀音由两个以上的詞素融合而成,但混成词不可以拆分为詞素。 西方現代語言學裏,portmanteau指混成詞曾一度通用,但已被blend取代[來源請求]。諸如motel(汽車旅館,motor + hotel)、smog(霧霾,smoke + fog)和brunch(早午餐,breakfast + lunch)等混成詞,現稱為blend。但含有多於一個意義的詞素仍然稱為「portmanteaux」。

Innocent pet photograph, or a coded insult aimed at China's leader? US-China: Pompeo dog photo has netizens asking if US is toying with ChinaA tweet by the US secretary of state has led to speculation over whether he is trying to send a message to the Chinese government. Mike Pompeo posted a picture on his personal account of his dog Mercer, surrounded by "all of her favourite toys". The toy that sits centre stage is a stuffed Winnie the Pooh. The tweet has ignited significant attention given that Winnie the Pooh is a common derogatory nickname for Chinese President Xi Jinping. Chinese netizens don't have a lot of love for Mike Pompeo, and regard him as "evil" and "the king of lies". However, he may be aware that they will struggle to talk about this tweet because nicknames referencing the Chinese leader are heavily censored. Memes comparing Xi to Pooh Bear have angered the Chinese authorities
