Do you guys know that the term of "tip" stands for "to insure promptitude"?
Tipping—which may have originated in the taverns of 17th Century England, where drinkers would slip money to the waiter “to insure promptitude” or T.I.P for short—wasn't embraced by all Americans when the custom began to make its way into our country's taverns and dining halls.

Interesting to know. Thank you for sharing. In Europe, generally, tips are already included in your restaurant check. If you are satisfied with the service, you may leave a few euros, no more than five, to show your appreciation. If you leave too big a tip, they know you are an American. dog eat dog (A situation) characterized by ruthless behavior and competition. 狗咬狗 Why the expression "dog eat dog"? Most dogs seem to treat each other well, and better than humans treat each other. The second Oxford English Dictionary contains a quote from 1858, referring to an old proverb that states "Dog does not eat dog". Apparently the modern expression appeared in 1931. It might be a play on the older expression, which could still have been well known at the time, meaning that society had become so vicious that metaphorical dog would now in fact eat metaphorical dog. It's Time To Get Serious About Social Distancing. Here's HowAnd even if you're planning to drive to your destination, the whole goal of this 15-day hunkering down period is to keep your germs to yourself so we slow the spread of the virus — a concept known as flattening the curve. Definition of hunker down

Are U.S. Hospitals Ready? All the social distancing Americans are trying to do now — shutting down bars and restaurants, hunkering down at home — might seem like an overreaction at a time when the number of confirmed cases is still low. (a high frequency word now ) ICU capacity could be the real chokepoint for many hospitals in America, says Eric Toner, of Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. 阻塞点 The stakes could not be higher — when a hospital is flooded with more critically ill patients than it can handle, more patients die. 爆满, 病人泛滥如洪水 "No hospital will be able to function as normal," says Toner. "It's a question of whether they can adequately adjust the way they do things in order to handle the tsunami of patients that are coming their way." 以海啸形容人之多,疫情之严重

"sausage making of pork barrel"

"sunshine patriots"
A Sunshine Patriot is a non-loyal soldier that supports the patriots of their country only when they are winning, and turns their backs on them when they are losing. This is the main reason why George Washington had trouble keeping soldiers during the Revolution.

Because of the allergy, my nose kept running yesterday. But when I lay on bed, It stopped. Where Did the liquid go? :-) runny nose: Runny nose is the idiom that Americans use to describe what happens when your nose runs (that is, when liquid comes out of your nose because of a cold, allergy, or crying). This is the term for the general condition of having a running nose and is used in a sentence like the word cold when it refers to an illness.
Running nose has the same meaning but is used only to refer to a specific instance of this symptom, in contrast to the condition in general. This expression is used very rarely; it's literal and descriptive and can be understood as being too direct a reference to something that is unpleasant: my uncle wiped his running nose with his sleeve the other day.

Hank-ccine or Hanks' vaccine
Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson tested positive for coronavirus in March. They have now fully recovered and been told they are immune to the virus. Earlier this month, Hanks had joked about the creation of a 'Hank-ccine' using his donated blood. On Twitter, Hanks shared a photo of a bag containing a pale yellow liquid, along with the caption: “Here's last week's bag of plasma. Such a bag! After the paperwork, it’s as easy as taking a nap.”
