On a Snowy Night Thinking of the Cottage of Hu, a Buddhist Householder by Wang Wei of Tang Dynasty
version 1: The night gong tells the coming of dawn, The mirror sees my youthful face gone. Wind shakes bamboos outside the window, Beyond the door hills wear veils of snow. O'er the still alley float the flakes light, In the huge courtyard piles the snow white At Yuan-An cottage how do things go? Its thatched gate is still shut tight I know.
Version 2: Dawn is coming with the gong at cold night I see in the mirror my aging face Outside th' pane wind shakes bamboos into fright Beyond th' door snow veils hills from top to base O'er the quiet alley float the flakes light The huge courtyard turns to a snowy place I wonder if Yuan-An Hut is alright Its thatched gate must still be shut tight in place

Also for a tease:
The cold watch clanged me to the morn stick The clear mirror yielded me with worn and weak Peeking into my window wind plays on the bamboos her trick Opening to my door snow covers up the mountains not least its peak Ah, snow! It fills in the deep alley with peace It piles up the great yard with ease Alas, would my friend’s much like Yuan’An’s place? Is his door closed, still making the world but a lease?

Evidently Wang was a guest at Hu’s much-cherished secluded place and he missed it so on a snowy day. The poem fits well his painting-not sure this is used in one of them or not.

Thank you for liking, friends. Like your question. I was helping Elaine to take care the Emus. They are a bit dumb. Snow all over their backs, but would not go into the shed we built for them. We have three goats, our donkey Donna, two emus, two bonnies, and a flock of chickens. There is also a six-pow cat. I forgot what that special feature is called. http://instagram.com/p/CF0EryfJ_aC http://instagram.com/p/CE28LJSDJMl http://instagram.com/p/CE-hRINDkZ3 刚刚查到, emus is called 鸸鹋 in Chinese. Didn’t know that..

wow, how beautiful! Breathtaking view!
