several art sites my friend recommended: 1. www.the-athenaeum.org/She says about this site: it is mostly just for paintings and older art, though there are some contemporary artists too. They have a random art page, which is cool for discovering new artists. 2. www.google.com/culturalinstitute/beta/Her words about this one: A bunch of art museums from all over the world participate, and you can "explore" beautiful art using street view. It also has a neat feature for looking at art by movement, or even the dominant color. 3. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:ArtShe also likes wikimedia: I really like looking for specific subjects and seeing all of the ways that artists represent them. For example, today I searched "easter in art" and found a lot of beautiful things.
