You are right! Excellent memory. wiki: William Hubbs Rehnquist (/ˈrɛnkwɪst/; October 1, 1924 – September 3, 2005) was an American jurist and lawyer who served on the Supreme Court of the United States for 33 years, first as an Associate Justice from 1972 to 1986 and then as Chief Justice from 1986 until his death in 2005. Considered a conservative, Rehnquist favored a conception of federalism that emphasized the Tenth Amendment's reservation of powers to the states. Under this view of federalism, the court, for the first time since the 1930s, struck down an act of Congress as exceeding its power under the Commerce Clause.
"Yes, we have three branches of the federal government, but the real question is: Are they equal?" --- IMHO, definitely not. constitutionstudy.com/2018/07/16/do-we-have-three-co-equal-branches-of-government-2/

Wonderful! On the article, I think the author’s understanding of what equality implies in the statement is fundamentally flawed. It is a very skewed and poor reading of its true meaning. Such is the kind of mistake often of a “modern“ mind trying its contemporary understandings on things that enjoy their unique historical settings. The concept or practice of government arrangement always carries its own historical nuances and particularities. And equality, by definition itself, can imply different things in different situations. The equality between legs and arms of being a member of a body is obviously different than that between the left arm and the right. The equality amongst the three branches enjoys its ingenuity in terms of how to design a government, making its major functions mainly as independent, balanced and accountable partners, and not as unreliable suspects or competing opponents. This understanding needs us to truly appreciate the revolutionary nature of a constitution-based governmental array as a painstaking historical development. In sum, primarily this equality is not about how much or how important the powers each branch wields. Rather it is an equality of stature and role-play. The first would be making it an issue of apple and orange; the second would be like a family, knowing that father & mother are equal partners of the responsibility and process of parenting. Hope I make sense.

文章芸芸,often than not, are works of ”letters of the law” rather than the spirit of the law.
Forgive me for having strong opinion on this master. It has wasted so much of my time and misled me into so many rabbit holes, I really hate to see it happen to others.

Truly appreciate your kindness and insightful thoughts. Thank you, my dear friend. I often read extensively rather than intensively, so no worries.

I never need to worry about you. Rather the opposite, have a lot to learn. A good student of life and truth. Mine are only some casual thoughts with the reading at hand. Recently I began to more seriously ponder on the failure of “modern” education, a system devised mostly from the 30s. So rigid and outdated yet pervasively overtook the modern societies like weeds. The academic ivory tower has already lost its soul.

As always, I appreciate your kind words, though I don't deserve them. :)

Thanks for sharing! "All the highest powers of our constitutional system are vested in the Congress" --- interesting to know. "Congress can, by impeachment and conviction, simply remove members of the other two branches, including its highest members (the president, the chief justice). Neither of those other two can do the same to Congress. " --- true.
