An Excerpt from Ode of Wilted Trees by Yu Xin The willows were planted that year, They looked lush and cute in Han Nan. Now they look shabby and sere, Dying, heart-wrenched, in Jiang Tan. If trees age at such a pace drear, Alas, what can we do as man! Tr. Wangyu 21/09/2023

"If trees age at such a pace drear, Alas, what can we do as man!"
To the Withered Trees by Yu Xin of the Liang and Northern Zhou Dynasties Years ago I planted th' willows, Which in Han Nan swayed to and fro. Now watching them stagger and fall, By the shore I am full of woe. When trees wither and die like this, How could we escape the death blow! Tr. Xishan
