'No Man is an Island' by John Donne No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
But humans are self-centered, and the world revolves around power and special interests.

I used to think the road was endless, and now I know it will end sometime, somewhere, somehow.
"I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep"
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening BY ROBERT FROST
Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound’s the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.

And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.
But humans are self-centered, and the world revolves around power and special interests. But, these are bees and dogs, they are NOT a true Man. Like anything in the world, the misrepresentation or abuse of the true is no reason to doubt or dismiss the true. Plato knows this a bit, logos or the ideal is never to find its perfect expression or embodiment in the visible. Yet to deny perfection or the possibility and approximation of perfection is to deny the origin and reason of true existence itself, which is self-contradicting. We are not happy with what is corrupted or perverted is self-evident that we are aspiring for what is perfect and righteous. By the same token, deep down in our heart, we are passionate and unyielding for its seeking and fulfillment. “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is praise-worthy.”

We will reap what we sow. That’s a divine universal law as long as we don’t put our hope in this transient life and in unenlightened, corruptible human beings. A sacrificial life is always a rewarding and noble life. Time will show. Don’t be troubled by the near or the quick. Trust that goodness will yield goodness and divine love (not self-centered or self-serving ones) will win. I was befriended by many interesting and impressive characters in my past life. And I now can see without a doubt that they were seeking what I had: a soul with a yearning for what is true and pure. We can be so rich in love and in truth that it makes all of the kings and princes of the world wretched and poor. If I am a friend and a son of God the Creator, would I ever be impressed by the miseries and the whims of the sons of man, merely lost creatures with maybe a potent soul? Never in a thousand of worlds.

文弟, thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. Well said. Yes, "deep down in our hearts", there is a yearning for a better world. True, "we will reap what we sow", and I'll be content even if what I get in the end is a meager harvest. --- Perseverance always pays off.
