一个有意思的事情是,今天这两位宇航员的太太也都是进入过太空的宇航员。一家有一个宇航员都已经是非常稀有,这夫妻都是宇航员更罕见,......

The lighting condition in the launch area puts the operation toward "no go" direction at this moment.

Better safe than sorry. www.businessinsider.com/spacex-nasa-astronaut-launch-weather-delayed-to-saturday-2020-5But just 17 minutes before the scheduled liftoff, bad weather — specifically thunderstorm anvil clouds and a strong electric field that could produce lightning strikes — made the skies of Cape Canaveral, Florida unsafe. The mission commanders called off the launch. "Not quite going to make it for this," a weather officer said on NASA's live feed of the launch.

I heard the NASA administrator said at the end that "it was a good wet trial". Wet trial? Yeah, if we think about all the propellant which had been pumped into the fuel tanks are in the state of liquid, then the "wet" makes a perfect sense, right?

Did not know there is even a Wiki page called "wet dress rehearsal". Thanks for the link. Here are some technical explanations I quoted from today's news: SpaceX's historic first launch of NASA astronauts was scrubbed on Wednesday due to poor weather, and rescheduled for Saturday. The weather might have cleared up in just 10 to 20 minutes, but the Falcon 9 rocket's launch couldn't wait another second. Why? That's because the rocket's ultra-cold fuel warms up and vents out as it sits on the launch pad, causing the machine to have less room for error in sending people to orbit. When a Crew Dragon spaceship is on top with passengers inside, the rocket must lift off 35 minutes after fueling begins — and align perfectly with the International Space Station flying overhead.

Company plans space tourism flights in high-altitude balloon www.cbsnews.com/news/space-tourism-space-perspective-balloon-ride-earth-atmosphere/"Spaceship Neptune," operated by a company called Space Perspective from leased facilities at NASA's Kennedy Space Center, will carry eight passengers at a time on six-hour flights. The passenger cabin, lifted by a huge hydrogen-filled balloon, will climb at a sedate 12 mph to an altitude of about 30 miles high. That will be followed by a slow descent to splashdown in the Atlantic Ocean where a recovery ship will be standing by to secure the cabin and crew.

$125,000 per person with the "opportunities for civilian astronauts to experience this planet Earth from the edge of space", that's awesome. First, I'd try to persuade my boss hosting a company event in the "balloon-borne pressurized cabin, complete with a bar and a restroom". If no luck, I will collect every penny I can find from underneath of carpet or old, dusty draws in closet to pay for the trip myself. :-) Thanks for sharing.

NASA is pressing ahead with plans to bring two astronauts and their SpaceX ferry ship back to Earth Sunday with a splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico. It will be the first piloted re-entry of a Crew Dragon spacecraft and NASA's first ocean landing in 45 years. "The return flight readiness review is complete and the NASA team and the SpaceX team, everybody remains 'go' for return," NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine told reporters Wednesday. "We cannot wait to get Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley back to Earth. "But of course, we have some weather pending. Just like when we launched, we had some challenges with weather, we may have that again. But the first opportunity remains August 2, and we look forward to seeing if that's going to be within the realm of what is possible." www.yahoo.com/news/spacex-crew-prepares-splashdown-225802290.html

Hope the weather will cooperate. NASA astronauts set to ride a SpaceX Crew Dragon back to Earth for the 1st time this weekend www.space.com/spacex-crew-dragon-astronauts-demo2-return-soon.htmlHurley and Behnken are currently scheduled to climb into the Crew Dragon capsule Saturday (Aug. 1) and splash down on Sunday (Aug. 2). Their initial splashdown target site is in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida's Panama City, NASA officials have said. I will be watching the splashdown event for sure.
